Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal – my player ratings

Image for Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal – my player ratings

arsenal-badgeHere are my Arsenal player ratings from today’s 2-0 away loss to Chelsea:

Petr Cech – Was called into action more times than his opposite number today and made some decent saves. Commanded his box well and couldn’t do anything about both goals. 6/10

Hector Bellerin – Had to be disciplined defensively with the threat Chelsea had on the flanks. Kept position well but couldn’t get forward as much as he would’ve liked to. 5/10

Gabriel – Was performing well up until he got into a scrap with Diego Costa. The Brazilian was sent off for two bookable offences in a matter of minutes before the half-time interval. Should have kept his cool but can’t fault his passion. 2/10

Laurent Koscielny – Dealt with the threat of Costa extremely well and got stuck in. Possibly could have done better with his positioning with the first goal. 5/10

Nacho Monreal – Like Bellerin, Monreal had to keep his discipline defensively, and did so to an extent. Was restricted going forward and lost his man for the first goal. 4/10

Francis Coquelin – Made some good, strong challenges early on but suffered a knock before the break. Was sacrificed for Chambers after the dismissal of Gabriel. 5/10

Santi Cazorla – Kept things ticking in midfield and tried to push the team forward when they were under the cosh in the second-half. Unfortunately for the Spaniard, he only lasted 78 minutes after receiving a second bookable offence. 5/10

Alexis Sanchez – Showcased his pace once again but didn’t release the ball quick enough, resulting in lost possession for the Gunners. Should have levelled the scoring but scuffed his effort horribly wide. Needs a rest as he looks to be struggling on the ball. 4.5/10

Aaron Ramsey – Got into some good positions but was ineffective with the ball today. Most memorable moment of the game was the ball he delivered to Sanchez, who missed his effort on goal. 3.5/10

Mesut Ozil – Played some nice passes forward but the German couldn’t get into the game and was nullified by Chelsea’s midfield. 3.5/10

Theo Walcott – Made some good, intelligent runs but was caught out one or two times from the offside trap. But Theo always looked to get in behind the Chelsea back-line with his pace. 5.5/10

SUBS:

Calum Chambers – On for Coquelin in the 45th minute and sat alongside Koscielny in the centre of defence. The young defender put some good challenges in and kept his position well. An own goal he could do nothing about. 5/10

Olivier Giroud – Replaced Ozil in the 75th minute to add a bit more threat upfront, sadly he didn’t do so. N/A

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – On for Sanchez with 15 minutes to go, but The Ox was unable to make anything happen. N/A

    Gabriel and Kos were briliant
Costa should have been sent off
BUT Wenger then takes off Coquelin a DM when the side with 10 men need combative players and leaves on the man who couldn’t make a tackle if his life depended on it – Ozil !!!

Wenger at fault for naive tactics, he should go along with Ozil

  • Huna Ralte says:

This result may be the conspiracy against Arsenal and the Wenger’s reluctant and shy to strengthen the team. How many Arsenal players will remain unfit for medical treatment.

  • Geoff says:

Taking Coquelin off & leaving Ozil on surprised me, however, Mike Dean should never b in charge of an Arsenal game again. Look at the Arsenal games he has been in charge & he is anti-Arsenal.
