Alexandre LacazetteArsenal have been linked with a number of strikers, with the Emirates faithful divided on which top forward they would like to see arrive at the club this summer.

Karim Benzema has reportedly been on the phone to Arsene Wenger over a potential move, while Gonzalo Higuain still remains a possibility despite his £67 million asking-price. But what about Alexandre Lacazette?

The Lyon striker has been persistently linked with a move to the Emirates this summer, with the French club’s manager Hubert Fournier admitting he could leave the Ligue 1 outfit this summer:

‘He is still under contract and the club is the decision maker. At no time have I felt a request to leave from him.

‘Things can still change. It is early July. The sooner it is resolved, the better it will be for everyone.’

Liverpool have registered their interest in the Frenchman, but the player himself has said ruled out a move to Anfield after declaring he will only join a club that will feature in the Champions League this season.

Arsene Wenger is reported to be a keen admirer of Lacazette, who suggested his future lay away from Lyon – even though he still has three-years left on his existing deal:

‘I have not made my decision. I will go on holiday, leave my agent to discuss things, for him to look after all that.

‘I am not worried. As soon as I have decided, I want it all to happen quickly. Everything depends on the destination. It would have to be for a Champions League club.’

And it seems Arsenal are in pole position to land him this summer after Lacazette’s Twitter account recently favourited a tweet about a potential switch to the Emirates.

However, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas recently stated that only an offer between £35-42 million for Lacazette, who scored 31 goals in 38 games in all competitions last season, would see him leave the Stade de Gerland this summer.

But is the France international the right man to fire Arsenal to domestic glory this season? Or should Wenger focus his attention on another striker like Benzema or Higuain?

Not for that price. Looks a good player in Ligue 1, but that doesn’t always translate to PL, and when it does ti can take a long time (Giroud had ropey seasons before finding his feet last season, and he was top scorer in Ligue 1 for MP).

Its a gamble, but maybe one worth taking if the professionals are convinced he can make the grade. We have several players already capable of leading the line, all of whom represent some gamble more or less. Giroud – can he replicate last seasons form, or revert back to the distinctly more average fare of previous seasons. Theo – we all know he’s effective when given space, but what about tighter games? Welbeck – got all the attributes to be excellent, but needs abetter final product, Sanchez – certainly not a lone CF by any stretch of the imagination, but could function with support.

If we want a proven striker who’s much less of a gamble then getting a PL proven player is the safest, and short of that getting a player who has demonstrated ability in multiple leagues.

Demba Ba, Hazard, Cabaye, the list goes on… they clicked in EPL right away.

You underestimate the French League and players that come from there. You must be English..

No, they didnt. Hazard was a shadow of his former self in his first PL season, and Djemba Ba moved from the Blundesliga. Cabaye did ok. Giroud took 2 seasons to get anywhere near his performance in Ligue 1.

At least get the basics right.

I agree with Thiery Henry…we need 4 more top signings to compete for PL title. We need a world class striker…Pedro or Benzema would be great plus a strong holding midfielder and a strong world class full back.

      that’s 3 players

Coqulein was the best DM in the league last season from a defensive standpoint; great in the tackle, winning a high of duels, great in the air, and making a huge number of interceptions/ clearances/ blocks (maybe not as good going forward as Matic or Schneiderlin, but so what). This “strong holding midfielder” thing is nonsense. We already have one.

New FB? Why? We have 2 good options at LB and RB, not to mention Chambers and Gabriel who can also play there.
