Arsenal are in pole position to sign former Real Madrid midfielder Jose Callejon, according to reports in Italy.
The 28-year-old is understood to want to make a return to Spain, but Ateltico Madrid, who were believed to be interested in the attacking midfielder, seem to have pulled out of the running for his signature
However, Callejon would also jump at the chnace to play in England, with Arsenal said to be keen on the Spaniard, reports Tuttomercatoweb.
Arsene Wenger is eager to add to his squad as he prepares to challenge for the Premier League title this season, and Callejon is said to be on the Frenchman’s radar.
But the Spain international still has three years left to run on his Napoli contract, with the club’s new boss Maurizio Sarri keen to hold on to him.
Since his move from Real Madrid to Napoli in 2013, Callejon has made a total of 105 appearances, scored 32 goals and assisted 12 along the way.
He is valued at around £16 million and remains a realistic option for Wenger, who is understood to want to bolster his attacking options.
