Ryo MiyaichiRyo Miyaichi has completed a transfer away from Arsenal to join Bundesliga 2 outfit St. Pauli – wasn’t he supposed to be the star of the future for the Gunners?

The 22-year-old forward signed for Arsenal in 2010 with high expectations and promise, with some suggesting he was going to be the next best thing at the club.

However, the Japan international only featured for Arsenal just the six times and during his time at the club, Miyaichi was loaned out to Feyenoord, Bolton, Wigan and, most recently, FC Twente to gain first-team experience.

But it appears Arsene Wenger, who once stated Miyaichi was one for the future and had bags of potential, has given up on the Japanese starlet and decided to sell him to second tier German side St. Pauli, who signed him for an undisclosed fee and have handed him a three-year deal.

Miyaichi certainly has potential to be a very good player in the future and it’s a shame he couldn’t develop his ability at Arsenal. But with the high-profile stars the club are bringing in as of late, I highly doubt the winger would have got a look in.

You have to be a very, very special young talent if you want to succeed and play regularly for Arsenal – perhaps Miyaichi just wasn’t up to that standard in Wenger’s eyes.
