Atletico preparing move for Arsenal defender

Nacho MonrealAtletico Madrid will turn to Nacho Monreal if they are unable to require Filipe Luis from Chelsea this summer.

Luis only joined Chelsea last summer from Atleti but has struggled to cement a regular role in Jose Mourinho’s side.

It’s been suggested that the Brazilian left-back could leave Stamford Bride as a result and old club Atleti are keen to bring him back to the Vicente Calderon.

However, according to Marca, the La Liga club do have a back-up plan in place should they fail to land Luis – this being a potential move for Monreal.

Monreal has surprisingly become Arsenal’s first-choice left-back ahead of Kieran Gibbs after a nervy start at the Emirates, making 28 appearances (26 as a starter) in the Premier League this season, and with four years left to run on his existing deal would not be allowed to leave on the cheap.

Monreal has become an established member of the side and is clearly favoured by Arsene Wenger in the left-back position, so unless the Frenchman has a replacement in mind this summer, I expect to see the 29-year-old at the Emirates next season.
