Mesut Ozil was spotted partying in Germany hours after he missed the Newcastle game on Saturday due to supposed illness.
The creative midfielder was allowed to return home early and excused from Arsenal’s latest win ahead of Germany’s international double-header against Australia and Georgia.
Ozil, who was seen out and about in a Berlin nightclub, is now expected to return to north London within 48 of the Georgia game, where Arsene Wenger will have a private chat over his off-field antics and remind him of his responsibilities as an Arsenal player.
Wenger is no stranger of having to deal with his players when their off the pitch. The Frenchman has spoken to Jack Wilshere over his smoking incidents in the past and only a few months ago (after the defeat to Southampton) gave Wojciech Szczesny a dressing down when the Pole was caught puffing away on a fag in the team locker room – he was fined £20k and lost his place in the starting line-up to David Ospina.
So, will the same happen to Ozil when he returns to the Emirates after the international break?
Wenger will certainly speak to him about what happened in Berlin, but I’m not sure of the severity of the situation or how the boss will view it. However, if the Szczesny incident is anything to go by, and how Wenger dealt with it, then expect the German international to be placed on the bench for a few games and hit with a fine.
