KhediraArsenal have been given a boost in their longing pursuit of Sami Khedira after the midfielder hinted his future may lie away from Real Madrid.

The German international is out of contract at the end of the season and has been on Arsene Wenger’s radar for some time, with reports even suggesting over January that a deal was done – nothing has yet materialized.

Despite starting in their entertaining 4-3 defeat to Schalke last night in the Champions League, the 27-year-old has become a bit-part player for Real Madrid since the summer arrival of Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich, starting just three La Liga games this season.

Reports have suggested that he could well remain at Real despite lack of game time, but Khedira has given those chasing him hope after hinting he is set to leave

When asked about the interest from Schalke, he said:

‘Am I open to Schalke? I am open to many teams.’

Arsenal have been linked with a number of defensive midfielders since the start of the campaign and Khedira’s name keeps popping up.

The Gunners could yet the midfielder for nothing this summer, but must fend off a number of European clubs to do so.
