Mario MandzukicMario Mandzukic has ended speculation of a summer move to Arsenal after admitting he is ‘happy’ at Atletico Madrid.

The Croatian forward was heavily tipped with a move to the Emirates during last month’s transfer window, but the Gunners were unable to lure him away from the Vicente Calderon.

The 28-year-old arrived at Atletico from Bayern Munich last summer and has impressed, scoring 19 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions so far this season. His form alerted the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United last month, but the Croatian international has since put rumours of a move away to bed after revealing his happiness at Atleti – even though reports suggested Mandzukic’s position at the club was under threat following the arrival of Fernando Torres in January.

Quoted in the Daily Star, Mandzukic said:

‘I am already at a big team and I am happy.

‘I don’t know of the Premier League.

‘To come here (Atletico) is the best decision that I could have taken.

‘I have the feeling that I have been here for two years, not six months.’

I particularly don’t believe Arsenal were interested in Mandzukic and if Arsene Wenger was considering a bid for the striker this summer, the Frenchman needn’t bother after the player’s latest comments.
