Many names have been tipped with a move to the Emirates, but nothing has transpired yet.
But QPR midfielder Barton reckons Wenger should swoop for Stones before his valuation increases in the coming year:
‘If you look at Arsenal and the style they play, surely they are looking at John Stones of Everton. He fits their model.
‘He’s an exceptional player. He’s going to be the hub of Everton’s defence. Reality says that you’re going to pay a premium for him with the longer you wait because he’s going to keep improving and improving with game time.’
So, is Barton right? Would Stones be an ideal signing and suit Arsenal’s style of play?
Stones is contracted to Everton until 2019, which would prove a stumbling block in this potential move.
Although naturally a centre-back, the England international can also play in the right full-back role – two areas that need addressing this month
Stones would offer more depth, competition and Premier League experience to our current defensive line, but Everton will be reluctant to sell one of their prized asset.
However, the 20-year-old would more than likely jump at the chance to join a club of Arsenal’s stature, as the Gunners would offer Champions League football and are renowned for their academy set-up and training facilities.
