Will Wenger FINALLY let go?

DiabyFinally, Arsene Wenger has admitted Abou Diaby’s future is in doubt – why it took so long, I do not know!

The French is out of contract in the summer and Wenger was considering whether to extend the 28-year-old’s stay following a string of long-term injuries

However, it seems Wenger has run finally out patience with the injury-prone midfielder, who has featured just the once this season for the Gunners – this coming in the Capital One Cup defeat to Southampton – and Le Boss sees no position for him in his current side.

Quoted in the Daily Star, he said:

‘At the moment he is not in a position where he will be able to play soon because he is not on the field at all.’

When asked on Diaby’s contract situation, Wenger replied:

‘I will have a decision to make about his contract.’

Although many Arsenal fans consider the lanky Frenchman to be a player with ability and one who can feature for the side regularly when fit, his major problem is exactly that. He has dealt with countless injuries since joining the club in 2006 and has played just 16 games in the past four years! His fitness is his Achilles heel and although it is sad to say that we haven’t seen the best from him because of this, we simply can’t afford to keep him on the books any longer

Could he get into the current Arsenal side if he was fit? I don’t think so, there are many players who are in front of him in the pecking order now and he would struggle to possibly been make the bench.

If his contract was to expire after the end of last season, then I strongly believe he would have been out the door already. And because he has been injured so frequently Wenger hasn’t been able to flog him off even if he wanted too. But now seems the best time to cut our losses and free up the wage budget a little bit for potentially a new recruit.

Wenger still seems undecided on whether to sign Diaby on to a new deal, but I can’t see any reason why we should keep him any longer.

If only I was a sorcerrer/witch doctor or even a gennie in a bottle wit 3 wishes, I’d hv casted a spell 2 heal Vassiriki, prepared a concoction 2 heal Abou or granted one of my wishes 2 heal Diaby. But it’s only if…..& if only could.

Such a shame. On his day he is a great player. Strong, skillful with great technical ability and as a youngster he had the potential to be an Arsenal great. All he lacked was composure and passing ability; two attributes that would have undoubtedly improved had he been featuring on a more frequent basis. I wish he could stay and turn his career around (he deserves it more than RVP did) but I just think Arsenal have supported him all these years and it might be time to let go.
