Sergio RamosArsenal are need of a new defender and are eyeing up a move for Real Madrid centre-back Sergio Ramos.

Several reports are suggesting that Arsene Wenger has held talks with the Spaniard’s agent, amid speculation that the 28-year-old is considering his future at the Bernabeu.

Although Ramos’ contract at Real isn’t up til the summer of 2017, the versatile defender recently turned down the offer of a new-two year contract extension, and the European champions may well decide to cash in at the end of the season if they are unable to tie him down to a new deal.

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Ramos in January, but it now appear that Arsenal are frontrunners in any potential deal, with several reports claiming AS reporter Manuel Esteban Manolete stating that Wenger has contacted the player’s agent:

‘Wenger has called Rene Ramos, the agent and brother of Sergio Ramos.’

The Frenchman may well have contacted Ramos’ agent over a possible move this January, and although it would be a viewed as an amazing signing, as the Spaniard can play anywhere across the back four, it just isn’t viable to me.

Ramos will not come cheap and with Wenger only having £20 million to spend this January, I highly doubt that it will be enough to land the Real star.

Wenger would do well to not pursue this deal and just sign a defender who can provide cover for the remainder of the season.

    1) Your opinion is based on a transfer budget which is a rumour via various tabloids.
    2) Nobody other than the hierachy at Arsenal know how much they can push for ie. They know actual numbers than any one else in the whole universe.
3)If Ramos is good at what he plies, why not add him to a depleted defensive line no matter what the cost if he is pure quality & can deliver??

I’m not sure where Tony got his financial figures from, but if that’s his only reason why Ramos shouldn’t be signed in January then that may not be good enough. Arsenal need a player like that and they are deficient in that position. They should pay the price and get their interest covered.

Although Arsenal desperately need a defender, do you really think Ramos is going to leave Real Madrid for Arsenal?

He still has 2-3 years left on his contract and if Real are willing to sell then it will be for massive money.

Granted, the £20 million figure may not be correct, but Ramos will be valued very highly due to his reputation and of course the length of his current deal at the Bernabeu.

On a technical level, Ramos is immense and his versatility would be brilliant to have at the club, but he has a very poor level of discipline and would ask for monstrous wages.

I can’t see this move happening and, in my opinion, if this rumour is true, then Wenger has nly targeted Ramos to get the fans excited about the possibility of seeing him join the club. But we all know this ‘deal’ won’t come to pass.

P.S: Thanks for the comments guys

Who knew if Ozil could leave almighty Madrid for Arsenal? Even we fans doubted it till it was official..

So why not Ramos that has won everything already and is a very close pal of Ozil.

  • Tony says:

some good points made Shegs but Wenger doesnt usually do big deals in January and we need a centre-back ASAP.

Don’t get me wrong, I want Ramos at Arsenal but its very unlikely he will come in Jan. So for that reason, Arsene should look elsewhere
