arsenal-badgeMy Arsenal player ratings from this afternoon’s poor 1-0 loss to Stoke City (feel free to argue or agree with me):

Wojciech Szczesny – Didn’t have much to do and when he did the Pole did well. Arsenal’s Man of the Match, and that’s saying something. 7.5/10

Bacary Sagna – Went forward well and always offered an overlap. Delivery into the box was poor, however, and, at times, was caught out of position. 5/10

Per Mertesacker – Read the game superbly and positioned well throughout. Commanded well from the back. 7/10

Laurent Koscielny – Like Per, Koscielny was well positioned throughout and made plenty of interceptions in the game. Conceded the dubious penalty which Stoke scored. 6.5/10

Kieran Gibbs – Got forward well and offered an overlap which worked at times. However, he failed to make anything happen when he got to the byline. 6/10

Mikel Arteta – Kept things neat and tidy in the middle of the park but never produced anything worth raving about. 4/10

Jack Wilshere – Was fairly quite today. Tried to drive the team forward but never got a foothold in the game. 4/10

Lukas Podolski – Made some good, intelligent runs forward but never got going. 4/10

Santi Cazorla – Made some decent passes throughout but was largely ineffective today. Thought he wasn’t playing until the commentator mentioned his name late into the second-half. Poor. 2/10

Tomas Rosicky – Misplaced many passes and struggled with the physicality of Stoke. Booked. 3/10

Olivier Giroud – Was muscled off the ball and never troubled the Stoke defence of their keeper. 3/10

SUBS:

Mesut Ozil – Came on for Podolski in the 66th minute and was deployed on the left wing. Touched the ball a few times and flashed a late effort wide. N/A

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Replaced Rosicky in the 75th minute. Got forward well and made a few decent runs into the Stoke penalty area late on. N/A

Yaya Sanogo – Came on for Wilshere with 10 minutes to go. Blazed a great chance late on from 12-yards out over the bar. N/A

Poor frm Arsenal! We really need Ramsey back, in games like this without him our midfield only looks good on paper not on the field!

Arsenals’ problem is wenger en his board! How do expect to win wen u dnt ave a striker ? giroud to me would make a better defender . Wenger shld have bought a striker in jan

For the umpteenth time, let me reiterate if Wenger remains the Arsenal coach for the next ten years they will not win a common plastic.

Wenger…sometimes I just really, really struggle to understand him.

Yes players need a rest, but we’re in the business end of the season, and not starting OX and flamini was a big mistake.

Giroud, simply put, is not good enough – end of story.

Arsenal have never been associated with goal less strikers, lumbering and static players, I like giroud but he’s not good enough for us.

We really are only two players away from being a title winning team, a commanding holding midfielder – my choice would be moussa sissoko.

And, obvious to everyone bar Wenger, a striker, a striker with pace, skill and strength, a striker who not only scores but creates his own chances and chances for others, someone who can make something from nothing. Not Giroud.
