Diego PoyetArsenal will go head-to-head with Tottenham for the signature of Diego Poyet this summer.

The 18-year-old – who is the son of Sunderland boss Gus Poyet – currently plays for Charlton but is out of contract at the end of the season and both the Gunners and Spurs are keen on the young midfielder, according to the Sunday People.

Scouts from both clubs have been to most of the games he’s featured in this season and could snap him up for as little as £500,000, which Charlton will receive in compensation for the time Poyet has spent at the club.

Born in Spain but grew up in England, Poyet holds passports for both countries and also qualifies to play for Uruguay as his dad was born in the South American country.

Poyet, who has represented England at Under-16 and Under-17 levels, has made 11 appearances (nine as a starter) for Charlton so far this season.
