What was the point?

Arsene WengerSo despite Arsene Wenger’s medical team telling him that Kim Kallstrom had a back injury which, reportedly, will see the Swede sidelined for up to 2-3 months (six games), the Frenchman still decided to go through with the deal and sign the 31-year-old – what’s the point?

Arsenal fans were left deflated when the club failed to land highly-rated German youngster Julian Draxler or indeed another striker to bolster their attacking options and instead saw the experienced Kallstrom join on loan for the remainder of the season from Spartak Moscow.

It was an anti-climax to say the very least on deadline day as many expected to see the club strengthen the areas which needed to be addressed.

But the question the Arsenal fans want answering is why did Wenger sign Kallstrom knowing the midfielder is set to be out for so long? It certainly is a strange one and only the Frenchman has the answer to this question, because I’m still trying to understand it.

If reports are to be believed and Kallstrom is out for as long as he is then I doubt he will get a game, as Mathieu Flamini and Aaron Ramsey, who is out for around five weeks, will both be back before Kim is. Basically we haven’t added to our squad this January and that’s what’s disappointing about this.

I can only describe this Kallstrom signing as absolutely pointless and possibly the worst acquisition Wenger has made in his nearly 18 year tenure at Arsenal.

In the business world I know that when a staff member does a poor business deal that would lead to a huge loss he would be issued a query. In this instance, if these reports are true( I don’t believe they are because the media here report a lot of rubbish), then Wenger would have acted most irresponsibly. The Arsenal Board must issue him a query and discipline him accordingly.

They’ve just given him a massive rise.
