New hope for Arsenal as Tonnies rules out Bayern move

|

Julian DraxlerGood news guys, Schalke chairman Clemens Tonnies recently stated that Julian Draxler won’t be joining Bayern Munich in the summer.

The 20-year-old was heavily linked with a switch to the Emirates during the January transfer window and while a deal couldn’t be agreed before Friday’s deadline day, it is believed Arsene Wenger will re-ignite his interest in the German playmaker over the summer.

There was a lot of controversy over the proposed move to Arsenal last month, with several sources claiming neither club were willing to co-operate. Reports in Germany even suggested that had the Gunners gone in with a bid, Draxler would’ve rejected it as he favoured a move to Bayern instead.

But Arsenal nor Bayern tabled a bid for the youngster last month according to Schalke’s sporting director Horst Heldt, who said an ‘insufficient’ offer came from north of the Gelsenkirchen club.

However, Tonnies has categorically ruled out the possibility of Draxler joining Pep Guardiola’s side at the end of the season, clearing the way for Arsenal to land the German international at the end of the season.

Quoted in The Daily Express, Tonnies said:

‘I can rule out, 100 per cent, that Julian Draxler wants to go to Bayern.’

We don’t know who the unnamed club was which launched a bid for Draxler, but after Tonnies ruling out the sale of Schalke’s prized asset to Bayern it seems Arsenal will be frontrunners for his signature.

If Wenger is keen to sign Draxler over the summer then I hope the Frenchman does it before the World Cup gets underway, as the German’s price-tag could increase with a impressive tournament under his belt.
