Blaise MatuidiArsenal could make a late move for midfielder Blaise Matuidi, according to the Daily Mail.

The Frenchman’s contract at the Parc des Princes is set to expire at the end of the season and with no sign’s of renewing his deal, culminated with ’s latest capture of Yohan Cabaye from Newcastle, the Ligue 1 club could put the 26-year-old up for sale and recoup some cash before the winter window closes rather than lose him on a free in the summer.

Matuidi, who has 19 caps for France, has been a regular for the reigning French champions since joining them from Saint-Etienne almost three years ago. However, there is major competition for a midfield berth at the club with Thiago Motta, Marco Verratti, Adrien Rabiot, and newly Cabaye all vying for a place in the starting XI.

Although Arsenal have a number of options in midfield when the squad is fully fit, Arsene may consider adding one or two new bodies to this area as Mathieu Flamini will serve a four match ban after receiving his marching orders against last night and, sadly, Aaron Ramsey could be out for a further six weeks following a setback in his road to recovery from a thigh injury.

We have a very busy February ahead of us which sees us play four big games in the space of 11 days! And needless to say, depth will be crucial to us coming through this hectic and decisive period of the season.

Should we make a move for Matuidi before Friday’s deadline day?

Depending on how much want for Matuidi, I think we should.

I think he would suit our style of play as he is technically very good on the ball and possesses good agility and movement. In addition, Matuidi wouldn’t come at a very high price as he only has six months left to run on his existing deal.

We need as many bodies as we can get as we head into the busy end of the season and I believe Matuidi would be a clever signing from the club – should they make it of course!

Manchester City are thought to be interested in the Frenchman.
