Into the New Year and the Gunners are enjoying an amazing run in the Premier League and are, after sometime, considered genuine title contenders.
Arsene Wenger has again managed to get the most out of a talented and hungry squad but one that also lacks in depth.
The need for a striker to bolster Arsenal’s front-line has been the topic of discussion for a while now, with Olivier Giroud our only recognized forward available, while Nicklas Bendtner and Theo Walcott are sidelined (the latter out for the rest of the season) and Yaya Sanogo vastly inexperienced.
However, our search could be made easier and cheaper thanks to one of our many London rivals.
QPR are rumoured to be looking at the option of offloading French striker Loic Remy, should the right offer come in.
The Championship side intends to recuperate at least double the fee they paid for the 27-year-old, currently on loan at Newcastle, when he signed from Marseille last year. This has been made easier by Remy’s form in the Premier League which has no doubt put him in the shop window.
The France international has managed to net 10 goals so far for Newcastle and it is rumoured he may consider his options after this summer’s World Cup.
And QPR manager Harry Redknapp is willing to let him go if a bid in the region of £15-16 million was tabled this summer:
‘If someone came and offered £15m or £16m for him I’d sell him if it was my choice, but it’s not. I don’t know what the deal is.
‘You’d think they’d want to snap him up, wouldn’t you? If they don’t somebody else will. For what we got him for he’s probably worth double that now – he’s scored goals in Premier League again this year.’
Question is though – would Remy, for £15 million, be money well spent?
In terms of how much value and depth he could add to the squad it certainly would be, in my opinion. Having him on-call when we need something different upfront would be a lovely option to have and he would make for a decent stand in if injures strike, as well as offer healthy competition for Giroud and co.
Remy, however, is not a solution to our striker problems as we need a world-class forward to come in. He is a very good and clever striker but we need that lethal finisher who can create moments of magic and turn a game on its head when things aren’t going for us.
Our squad has done extremely well thus far, but by no means is that an excuse to rest on our laurels, a world class forward that can bag us 20-30 goals a season is what we truly need to really give us that extra edge. Yes that calls for a large sum of cash to be spent in order to achieve that, but the success that could come with it would no doubt make it a well spent sum.
Remy would make a good addition to the squad and for £15-16 million it wouldn’t be money squandered. However, he isn’t the forward to fire us to silverware, not in my opinion.
I diagree. I think Remy would be a great signing and a striker who could help us lift silverware in the future. He’s performing well for Newcastle, just imagine him at Arsenal with better players around him. £15 million is a bargain price for a striker of his quality as well
True
nothing, and I mean nothing, trumps pace. we had it, we need it, and they aaaallllll fear it. with the passing quality we have now, he would have how many chances per game?
Arsenal should get someone speedy like Eden Hazard. He is good at scoring goals cheeky skills and good passing.
it will improve Arsenal more better
I am I huge fan of remy and I have to say he can become a world class forward with our midfield
Personally, I would prefer Demba Ba to Remy without disrespect to Remy, Demba’s a clinical finisher though Remy has speed compared to Demba!
We need a world class striker not average strikers if we are to challenge Man City & Chelsea for the title and without that, I see Arsenal without yet trophyless this season.
If it was Ba or Remy to choose from then it would have to be Remy as he is playing regurarly while Ba isn’t. I don’t think Ba is as good as many make out. He’s dipped drastically since goin to Chelsea and like the others above stated, Remy would thrive at Arsenal
Yes Remy is quite good , IF we can’t get Jackson Martinez …..
Wenger shld go for talented striker,nt a kind of remy or ba.
Wenger go nd get us a formidable striker, dats all
