Arsenal are preparing a winter bid for Hamburg youngster Hakan Calhanoglu, according to the player’s agent.
The 19-year-old has been one of the Bundesliga’s emerging stars this season, finding the back of the net four times in 17 appearances in total so far.
Calhanoglu, who has been likened to Mesut Ozil due to his technical ability and vision, has already been capped for Turkey and is attracting interest from the Gunners.
The attacking midfielder joined Hamburg from Karlsruher over the summer and his agent Bektas Demirtas says the youngster wants to remain at Imtech Arena despite interest from Arsene Wenger’s side:
‘We know of Arsenal’s interest. I think they will make a concrete move in December or January. Hakan and Hamburg has been a success story – our wish is that he stays here and continues to evolve.’
Calhanoglu is contracted to Hamburg until 2016 and it is thought Liverpool are also keeping tabs on the young Turkish star.
Perhaps this is a ploy from the player’s representative to get him a better deal at Hamburg because I very much doubt that Wenger will make a move for Calhanoglu when the transfer window opens next month especially after signing Ozil over the summer.
