According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal will step up their interest in Karim Benzema with rumours suggesting the French forward is looking for a new challenge away from Real Madrid.
It is thought a fee of £27.5 million will be enough to land the 25-year-old, who has netted 10 goals in 19 appearances for Real Madrid so far this season under the Carlo Ancelotti.
The France international’s contract expires in 18 months time and it is understood the player’s representatives are searching for possible destinations away from the Bernabeu, well aware that Arsenal remain keen on Benzema.
Galatasaray reportedly met with Benzema’s agent Karim Dzajiri twice – once in Paris and another time in Madrid – and revealed Real Madrid will want around €33 million for the former Lyon man, while the player himself will demand a salary of £150k-a-week.
However the Turkish club have been put off by Benzema’s fee but Arsenal could well afford it – having shelled out £42 million for Mesut Ozil over the summer – and with the need for another forward coming in to help and offer Olivier Giroud competition upfront, Benzema (for £27.5 million) will be seen by many as a bargain and a striker who could fire the Gunners to silverware this season.
