arsenal-badgeMy Arsenal player ratings from today’s 3-1 win against Stoke (feel free to argue or agree with me):

Wojciech Szczesny – Could not do anything about the goal we conceded but was pretty much solid throughout. Made some good catches and dealt with what was thrown at him by Stoke. 7/10

Bacary Sagna – A better performance from the 30-year-old Frenchman in his natural position today. Defended well and got forward when possible. Managed to bag Arsenal’s third goal with an impressive looped header. 7/10

Per Mertesacker – The German centre-back marshalled the back-line well and grew as the game wore on. Got Arsenal back in front with a decent header from an Ozil cross before the end of the first-half. 7/10

Laurent Koscielny – Like Mertesacker, Koscielny was once again solid in the heart of our defence. Kept Kenwyne Jones quiet and had a relatively relaxed afternoon. 7/10

Kieran Gibbs – Got forward well, offering an overlap when possible, and defended well throughout the game. 7/10

Mathieu Flamini – The tenacious Frenchman proved once again why he needs to be in the starting line-up week in week out (if his fitness allows him). Marshalled the midfield superbly and wasn’t afraid to get stuck in. Communicated throughout. Man of the Match. 8.5/10

Jack Wilshere – Started off well, making runs through the middle of the park and linking up well with his team-mates, but his performance levels dropped after the interval (probably because he was getting kicked all day). Still doesn’t look 100% fit. 6.5/10

Aaron Ramsey – Scored his third Premier League goal of the season in the opening five minutes. The Welshman, once again, showed he is willing to track back and move forward as well as able to run with the ball. Needs to work on his passing a little more though. 7/10

Serge Gnabry – The 18-year-old produced a very encouraging performance in his first full Premier League debut. Made some great runs forward and was not afraid to take on Stoke’s defence. Showed his strength and was willing to get back and help out when the team didn’t have possession. Excited by this German youngster. 7.5/10

Mesut Ozil – Contributed two assists and linked up well with the likes of Wilshere, Ramsey and Giroud. Always looked for the incisive pass but was unable to make the full 90 minutes. 8/10

Olivier Giroud – Didn’t score, but held the ball up well and brought others into play, and was aerially very assured. 6.5/10

SUBS:

Ryo Miyaichi – Came on for Gnabry in the 72nd minute and was deployed on the right wing. Not enough time on the pitch to really show what he is capable of. 5/10

Nacho Monreal – On for Wilshere in the 72nd minute to balance the side a little more in the last 20 minutes. Got forward well but was brought on to help out Gibbs on the left flank. 5/10

Mikel Arteta – Replaced Ozil in the 80th minute. Great to see the Spaniard back from injury and will more than likely be imbedded into the side slowly by Arsene Wenger. Had a few touches of the ball. N/A

  • Twivil says:

Ramsey had a 94% passing accuracy— suggest you brush up on your objective evaluation skills!

  • Kane says:

Twivil got there before me. Ramsey and Flamini’s passing stats were almost identical (66 and 67 passes completed of 70 respectively). The difference is Ramsey was operating higher up the pitch, with 22 of 24 passes in the attacking third where space is far tighter. He also won 6 of 8 tackles (to Flamini’s 3 of 3) and popped up with a goal.

Flamini was excellent today at organising, which does not show up in the stats, but it is hard to argue that he had a better game than Ramsey, who was immense.
