‘I believe it’s the best step for him’

The Gunners managed to pull off the biggest transfer of the summer by signing German international Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for a club record fee of £42.4 million on deadline day.

While many of his former team-mates at Real, like Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos, were unhappy with the sale of Ozil to Arsene Wenger’s side, Khedira believes it was the right move for the midfield maestro:

‘It is his decision and he personally made this decision.

‘In football you can’t always decide what’s good for you and what’s not, therefore I believe it’s the best step for him. Good luck to him.’

Like many, I was shocked to hear that Ozil signed for us on deadline day, because I didn’t think a player of his quality would leave one of the biggest clubs in the world to come to Arsenal. I’m glad he did though as I have been an admirer of his talents since his Werder Bremen days.

The fact is Ozil had to leave Real because Gareth Bale was coming in, further limiting the 24-year-old’s chances of regular football at the Bernabeu.

The signing of Ozil shows we still can compete for the best players in the world, which is great to see. I can’t wait to see him play for us and hope he can take us to the next level and this side can break the trophy duck this season.
