Gunners track Villa defender

|

lowtonThe summer transfer window is fast approaching (its only two months away or so away!) and it seems we have been linked with just about everyone, from goalkeepers to strikers.

The latest name to be earmarked as a potential arrival at The Emirates at the end of the season is Aston Villa youngster Matt Lowton.

The Sunday People reports Arsene Wenger is monitoring the progress of the 23-year-old right-back and sees the Chesterfield-born defender as a potential replacement for Bacary Sagna, whose future at Arsenal is unclear at the moment.

Bacary Sagna has drawn the interest of PSG after reportedly refusing to sign a one-year extension to his existing contract at The Emirates, which expires at the end of next season’s campaign.

Lowton spent five seasons at Sheffield United between 2007-2012. During this period he was loaned out to Sheffield FC and Ferencvaros before signing for Villa last summer.

Lowton, who can play in a number of defensive positions but is naturally a right-back, has been ever-present for Villa this season and Arsenal could land him for a small fee should Paul Lambert’s side be relegated from the Premier League.

Are we not tired of being linked with average and on-progress plyers? Why can’t arsene influence the board to solidify the squad with experienced, young, talented and established players?

Unfortunately for you guys Villa do not need to sell come the summer, We will be wanting to keep most of our players next summer.

He is on a long contract just like everyone else and is on probably a lot less than 20k a week.

We will be getting Given, Dunne, Makoun Petrov, Ireland and Bent off the wage bill and we also got rid of Warnock and Hutton in Jan who combined at an alarming 80-90k a week. Just by getting rid of those players who currently don’t play first team football we will be saving over 20m a season.

Although Lowton is a good player I just cannot see Villa letting him go.
