Roggi confirms Arsenal interest

|

mattia perinArsenal are among five big European clubs reportedly tracking Pescara shot-stopper Mattia Perin.

Perin is currently on-loan at Pesacra from Genoa and his performances between the sticks for Davide Ballardini’s side this season has, according to the player’s agent, has attracted the attentions of several European outfits.

Moreno Roggi was quoted on a number of sport sites saying:

‘There are many clubs interested in him: Arsenal, Barcelona, AC Milan. It has also been said about Juventus, Napoli and Roma.’

Perin’s agent then went on to say that he sees his client staying at least one more season at Genoa after extended his stay with the Serie A club until 2017 and would cost interested parties in the excess of at least €20 million (17.4m).

‘Currently, however, there is only one certainty about Mattia’s future: he will return to Genoa at the end of his loan and there is a mutual intention for him to spend at least one season in a Genoa shirt.

‘Just a month ago we extended his contract until 2017 and Mattia’s cost is at least €20 million.

‘I am 99 per cent sure he will be Genoa’s goalkeeper next season.’

With no real competition for Wojciech Szczesny’s place in the side, Arsenal have been on the look out for a potential challenger/understudy for the Pole – Pepe Reina, Simon Mignolet and Asmir Beogvic are just some shot-stoppers which have been linked with a move to The Emirates this summer.

As far as our apparent interest in Perin is concerned, I can’t see our club splashing out £17.4 million for a relatively unproven 20-year-old – just another agent trying to get his client in the spotlight I think.
