Pontello says Fiorentina should cash in on Arsenal target

|

Stevan JoveticRanieri Pontello says Fiorentina should sell Arsenal target Stevan Jovetic in the summer.

Pontello, who owned the Serie A side from 1980 to 1986 and controversially sanctioned the sale of Roberto Baggio to Juventus in 1990, believes the Florence club should cash in on the 23-year-old Montenegro international.

Jovetic is arguably Fiorentina’s prized asset and the potential sale of the forward in the upcoming summer transfer window could well cause outrage among the fans and owners.

The Gunners have previously been linked with a move for Jovetic, with many reports suggesting they were ready to lodge a £20 million bid for him in the past transfer window, and Pontello says they should sell if the price was right.

He recently told Italian publication Tuttosport:

‘There is a similarity between the two situations. We are talking about great players.

‘However, between Baggio and Jovetic, there is a difference. The Baggio of that time was superior to the present Jovetic.

‘But I would be in favour of a sale if a notable offer is put on the table. After all, the Della Valle family are looking for balance between results and their accounts.

‘With the money they can get from Jovetic, the Viola could move really well in the market. The club have shown recently that they are excellent at investing.’

Jovetic, whose contract with Fiorentina expires in 2016, has been in great form for the Viola this season, scoring nine goals in 18 Serie A appearances.

Worth testing the waters in the summer I guess.
