Arsenal and Manchester United are tracking the progress of Hamburg starlet Jonathan Tah, according to reports in Germany.

The 16-year-old centre-back is contracted to Hamburg until 2014 but has yet to feature in the first-team.

Tah captains the Germany Under-17 side and is regarded as one of the brightest prospect in the country by former Hamburg centre-back Bastian Reinhardt.

He told German publication Hamburger Morgenpost:

‘Interest is known to us. We take it seriously and are working to keep the guys at Hamburg. We trust them to make the leap into the professional squad – and pretty quickly. In the conversations we’ve had, we’ve made it clear to them that they have a great future at HSV.’

Hamburg’s sporting director Frank Arnesen also believes Tah has great potential to become a huge star in the future, and claims clubs from around Germany, Spain and England are keeping tabs on him:

‘He is the greatest talent HSV has in defence.

‘Jonathan is extremely physically strong for his age, is very quick, strong in the tackle and has good technique. He has everything it takes to be a good central defender.’

‘All first division from Germany, Spain and England have him on their list. But we will do everything we can to keep him.’

Because of his Ivorian descent, Tah is also eligible to feature for the African nation.

To be honest, I hadn’t even heard of the lad until I read Arsenal were tracking him. But he sounds like a great youth prospect if Arnesen and Reinhardt’s words are anything to go by.

Tah sounds like a player Arsene Wenger would be interested in and I wouldn’t be too surprised to see the Frenchman approach Hamburg for the youngster in the near future.
