Ray Parlour reckons if Arsenal are going to sell Robin van Persie to Manchester City then they should ask for Edin Dzeko as a ready-made replacement for the Dutch striker.
But would this be a worthwhile deal for the Gunners to consider pursuing?
Well if recent reports are to be believed then it seems the Dutchman has targeted Manchester as his next destination after the 28-year-old was spotted house hunting in Cheshire.
Roberto Mancini is known to be a keen admirer of the Holland international but Arsenal will be reluctant to sell their captain to a Premier League rival.
But should Van Persie move to The Etihad Stadium then Parlour, who insists the club should get rid of RVP ASAP, believes they should ask for Dzeko to be apart of the deal.
The former Gunner was quoted on talkSPORT.com saying:
‘I don’t know what Arsenal will look at, but if [Van Persie] does want to go to Manchester City then maybe they could look at a swap deal with someone like Dzeko and bring him in.
‘His wages might be a problem. I don’t know what kind of wages Dzeko is on at Manchester City and Arsenal have always had that pay structure that they want to keep to and maybe they have to change that.
‘Times are moving on and if you want the best players they go for the best money.’
To be honest, if Robin is looking to go to City then I think we should try and get one of their players as part of the deal. Should that player be Dzeko though? I don’t think so. We already have a number of strikers at the club and it would be unwise, in my opinion, to ask for the Bosnian in place of the Dutchman.
If I were allowed to pick a player from the City squad, who of course is out-of-favour and doesn’t really get a look in, then I would ask for Nigel De Jong, Micah Richards or Vladimir Weiss as part of the Van Persie deal.
RVP for Dzeko?

Players who don’t get a look in? You do realise that Micah Richards played 29 league games last season and missed about 6 matches through injury. I reckon there were about 3 or 4 matches where Zabaleta was genuinely picked ahead of him in the Prem.
Lie.
Please enlighten me then, how many Prem appearances did he make last season?
too many people think that dzeko is just an aerial threat.. they can’t be more wrong.. he’s fast , got long legs, holds up the ball well. possesses a good shot on him.. and always gives his 100% on the pitch, evn chasing lost causes. n who says we dont play that game?????????… dont we send crosses in?? we do.. theo sends a lot of em in.. as does sagna/jenkinson and poldi can obviously rip up some great crosses too..
Yeah!!!! get Dzeko , Johson and De Jong…

Arsenal, killing football since football was invented in 1992.
Yes a swop would be ideal for Arsenal, at least we’d get a player for our money we can see
rather than money stored in the bank which as usual we’d never see.
aguero only! 😉
