Why Barca’s interest in this man shouldn’t worry us

It appears, once again, that one of our summer targets is the subject of interest from Barcelona – this time it’s Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila.

Arsenal have been heavily linked to the 21-year-old, but his agent announced that his future will be decided after Euro 2012.

Along with Barcelona, Arsenal once faced competition from Manchester United for M’Vila. However, it appears Sir Alex Ferguson has placed M’Vila further down his list of his targets this summer, which could allow the Gunners to a clear run to sign the Frenchman.

But with Barca reportedly interested in the France international, Rennes will be hoping to start a bidding war for M’Vila.

Previously things have not gone well for Arsenal when it comes to dealing with Barcelona. But there appears to be a new optimism surrounding the Gunners’ transfers at the moment, with the capture of Lukas Podolski and what appears to be the future capture of Olivier Giroud.

There is one stumbling block that I can see in this prospective transfer, other than the fact it is Barcelona we are potentially bidding against, and that is that our record transfer fee stands at £15 million, which means we would more than likely have to double this sum to land M’Vila.

So will Arsenal lose out to Barcelona? Previously I would have said yes, but there is something that is different this time, Arsenal seem to be willing to spend some money. Besides, Barca are in financial problems as well, so this is another advantage.

If Arsenal manage to capture M’Vila and Giroud then I say we just need to sort out our defence and then we will really be going into the new season with a positive view.

You think we may have to double our transfer record to get him… you honestly think there is any chance we will pay £30million for M’Vila???? Are you off your head???? There is absolutely no way we would pay that. No way, if we really think bidding gonna go like that then I would fully expect us to have moved on from this target and now looking for a cheaper option… £30 million indeed – no way!

We should use Alex Song as a makeweight- he’s dinked the ball superbly to RVP every so often but he isn’t disciplined enough as a holding midfielder. Too clumsy, gives the ball away too easily and at the worst times. Leaves our defence completely unprotected. Then we can keep a lid on the fee.

Saying Song’s unreliable??? Wow I’m astounded, that’s up there with my mate sayin Obi Mikel was in the top two DM’s in the EPL this year! Barring RVP he’s been our best player this season, consistent, solid and actually pretty decent going forward, and as our midfield all now share the defensive holding role the blame can’t be aimed at Song and only at him.

If M’vila is out of our reach, how about Essien if he accepts paycut?I’m sure he’s not too happy at Chelsea right now. This way we have cover for Song and with Essien’s age,our upcoming youngsters wouldn’t be too worried about their futures, plus he wouldn’t need time to adapt.

I think M’Villa will help the defence. A lot of the problem is being exposed by the midfield.

    Come on the gunners

lets face it, the deal for him is dead in the water. there is no way it would have gone so quiet if the deal was still on. weather its the fee or the wages or just Wenger thinking there are alternatives i dont know but if he can manage to start negotiations with giroud, (or whatever his name is) then he would have been able to at least start negotiations with M’villa.(two birds one stone) something tells me this is another Mata saga!?!?
