Should Arsenal fork out £15M for this CSKA striker?

It’s been reported that Arsenal are looking to sign CSKA Moscow striker Seydou Doumbia, and the Russian club are willing to listen to offers less than the £26 million buyout clause in his current contract.

The 24-year-old, who netted an impressive 31 goals in 43 appearances for CSKA last season, could potentially be acquired for around £15 million, which may interest Arsene Wenger. However, it appears the Gunners are not the only side looking at the Ivory Coast international.

With Napoli’s Ezequiel Lavezzi primed for a move to either PSG or Anzhi this summer, the Serie A outfit will more than likely look to replace the Argentine forward, and have pinpointed Doumbia as a potential successor.

And his agent, Jean Bernard Beytrison, says Napoli is an attractive option for his client to mull over:

‘I have heard and read that Napoli wants to bring my client to the Azzurri but I have not spoken to them.

‘Doumbia know Naples is crazy about football and he likes how they play.

‘If an offer came in from Naples, the player certainly would consider.’

Beytrison finished off by saying:

‘My client would not have any problems adapting to Italian football because he has already played in Russia, Switzerland and Japan.’

It doesn’t look good for us, if of course we are in fact targeting Doumbia. However, I’m sure the player would seriously consider a move to Arsenal, and I think Gervinho could play a massive part in this potential move as well.

£15 million isn’t much to part with, we spent roughly the same amount on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain last summer, so why not on a prolific striker like Doumbia?

If i recall correctly we spent 6m on chamberlain rising to 12 depending on appearnces and trophies won so probably about 7m in total.
if we sign this fella it means another african who wont score a single goal between mid jan to end of feb. until the acon is played outside of our football season there jas to be a limit to how many we can have. song gervinho chamakh and frimpong is quite enough in fact i would say 2 is the maximum we should have in our squad.

bc or whatever you call yourself…are you some kind of racist…go shoot yourself like Hitler u Nazi asshole

      • Pontus says:

It’s not about racism you fool. He’s just stating the fact that African players tend to leave to represent their countries during the African cup of nations. It’s every year and in the middle of a very busy period at that. So, if too many of our key players are playing for teams that have qualified for afc it will create a huge problem for us in jan-feb.

        • f22 says:

Pontus..whats that Roman..you can shoot yourself 2 skinhead

        • adeyinka says:

There is no ACON this season so what’s the issue? Chelsea never had an issue investing in african players…players should be bought on merit 4weeks away is a known issue for a top team with a squad like arsenals(or the one we should have!0

      • JackFact says:

Wow f22 – you really are stupid!
Every time you speak, you make yourself look more stupid too.
Get over yourself and go back to school.

      • pontus says:

@f22 I have requested your email and any other information I can get from the people running this site so that I can press charges by the way.

        • adeyinka says:

That was ‘none issue’I meant to say….and yes the racist comment is uncalled for

        • pontus says:

@Adeyinka No ACON this season? You better call Rwanda and tell them to stop preparing for hosting then

        • tiko says:

          Both parties are wrong here.

Yes it is true tha Doumbia will be away for the nations cup.A fact a pontus put it but there is something called tact. ‘Another African who won’t…’ There are better ways to put a point accross.BC’s cooments are no better than the recent words of a certain dutch player who claims the Euros is tougher that the WC because there are no African team. Fact is the Dutch find it easy to beat African teams (check the records)but not all teams do. The Dutch have never won the WC so his comments can be construed as racist.

f22, No need to react like that. There are better ways to rise above situations where you are convinced there racist conotations to a statement.

My opinion is that it will not make economic sence
to add another player who will miss matches due to the nations cup but if he replaces Chamakh then it is not so bad.Other teams have managed to remain competitive by managing this small problem.

fukin wanker dick i aint even african and im gettin pissed off u have no fukin right shuthefuk up u bastard dick wanker shit

      • pontus says:

@tiko – I never said anything about Africans who won’t score. And again, I am not against us buying African players. I just don’t think that the first comment was racist. At least I hope not. Maybe I think people are better than they are.

    • Chux says:

Bc u know what ? U r a chaff. A racist. U go hug transformer or kiss high tension.

  • Sneakingiant says:

Only a simple minded soul would use the racist card. He is saying that what is the point on spending big money on talent if they going to be missing for 8 weeks of the season. I definately agree with u bc

    • f22 says:

The ACOF happens every 2 yrs so they dont miss 8 weeks 4 the season…that probably wld not have been the case if British footballers like Ramsey and Theo could actually play football…you are probably one of those low IQ retards that pretend that racism does not exist.

      • pontus says:

Sorry my bad. It is every two years. This year however is different as they will have it 2013 as well. You’re still a total idiot though. There is not a racist bone in my body! If the EPL was played at the same time as the euros I would rather we opted for non-european players. And it’s not like I mind having African players both current, past and future African additions to our squad have been great. But, if we would only have Africans we would have to forfit games for two months every two years.

        • f22 says:

Sorry about my earlier comment man…i must say you are right.

        • f22 says:

Sorry about my earlier comment…you are write but you see in june/july in africa it rains non stop at times..i dont see the pitches being able to handle any major competition…but i must say more can be done to try to aleviate that problem…its not always fair to some teams

        • pontus says:

it’s fine man, no problem. I agree totally that we can’t have African Cup of Nations in the summer and I also think it’s very important that they keep doing it every two years as it is still a developing continent when it comes to football. I’m not saying we shouldn’t buy this guy, maybe we should, but we have to keep in mind that he would be gone at times. If Cameroon had qualified for the last tournament we would never had reached third this year as we would have lost Song for two months.

  • Tommy p Mangai says:

Just take a look@ chelsea and the way they played last season.we had better players but we lost it all.we need fine player in front with d best striker in the world paired together.pls it will be a great dicision to bring him.lets work with peoples power 4 now.

  • JackFact says:

    Absolutely NOT!
Totally overrated player, would not hack it in the prem. Dont forget Gervinho is considered a far better player than him by the Ivory coast – so what does that tell you!

Affellay at £6m is the bargain of the season. BUY BUY BUY

  • nicky says:

    @f22,
After reading, with near disbelief, your moronic and ignorant comments, I can only assume that your name is the numerical equivalent of your IQ.

    • f22 says:

Actually no…I have a masters degree in electrical engineering from the University of Perth…which am sure is more than you can say…lets get back to focusing on the football

  • kaycee says:

i dont understand the point you guys are trying to make,he went to nations cup and still scored 31
goals. We had park all season how many goals did he score?

  • nicky says:

    @ f22,
With that sort of qualification, why don’t you put your fingers into a light socket.

  • Iyke Oriji says:

@Nicky drop it,this guys hav settled and understood there mistakes, you are just trying to cus ur own fight…just drop it #goonerfamily

  • bc says:

Wow – just back on line after watching the.jubilee celebrations and what a reaction. firstly let me say to the-h and f22 you must be very careful about making disgraceful and slanderous comments. as a man with mixed race children and being happily married to an asian i do not have a racist bone in my body. i work as a football coach for kids and youths of many ethnic groups and my point is simply this. having watched arsenal as a season ticket holder for more than 40 years i believe that next season we need a trophy more than i have ever know. my view is simply this as a club that does not have a bottomless pit like some we need every or as many players available all season as we can possibly have. having too many african players leave the club at a time of the season that is so important will be of no benefit to us. if u recall it was without just gervinho and chamakh this season that we lost in milan went out to sunderland in the fa cup and had some pretty poor displays. imagine being without more players this winter. people really need to chill about comments it seems every man and his dog wants to jump on the racist bandwagon without even knowing anything about the person making the comments.

  • bc says:

Oh and my comment about the.acon being played outside of our season. thats not to change the date of the acon. it is to hope that one day somehow fifa work out a football calendar that aligns all over the world. just like i hope one day passports are scrapped and we can all choose where we want to holiday live work and die regardless of where we are born

    • Pontus says:

Thanks bc for clearing that up.

    • f22 says:

sorry bc…i admit my mistake…You should have explained a bit more at the beginning and i aalso admit i was a bit to abrupt and that was not called for..again sorry
