Should we attempt to nab this Dortmund playmaker from under United’s nose?

Once again the transfer rumours are heating up. The latest player linked with a move to the Premier League is Manchester United target Shinji Kagawa, who recently announced that he will not be extending his current contract with Borussia Dortmund which is due to expire at the end of next season.

Dortmund director Michael Zorc had this to say about the situation:

‘I spoke to Shinji and his advisor last week and to date he is not willing to extend his contract.

‘We have a Plan A and B and we will follow one of them. We won’t gamble, but he has a specific career plan and he plans to play in England.

‘We have to accept that, even if we don’t find it good.’

Question is, should Arsenal look to try and acquire the Japan international from under United’s nose this summer? In my opinion, I think we should keep and eye on him, and a potential move will, I think, depend on what happens with to our current midfield and if we actually sign our targets.

It is thought Dortmund will be looking for a fee as little as £5 million for Kagawa and both Arsenal and United, as well as any other interested club, stand a good chance of signing the 23-year-old.

No matter what the outcome, The Bundesliga club will be sad to see the talented midfielder leave, as he has scored 16 goals and bagged 10 assists in 40 games for them this year, an impressive record to say the very least.

It was announced yesterday that Arsenal have officially signed Lukas Podolski from FC Koln and Shinji Kagawa could make be another great signing for the Gunners.

So, should we attempt to lure the Dortmund playmaker to The Emirates this summer?

For 5 million yes but no way he will cost that try 10-15 million. Better targets out there for that money belhanda, hazard, robben and eriksen!!

    • Rohit says:

First go and watch Kagawa……he is definitely better than Belhanda,Robben,Eriksen and at par only with Hazard(who is selfish player with Na$ri type attitude) !!!

    • bob says:

Hazard and Robben would cost way more then 15m- and belhanda and eriksen probably about that but they are nowhere near as good as Kagawa

  • walter says:

i think we should absolutely sign him. He is cheap and an incredible player. Since Gotze has been out Kagawa has impressed greatly. He has scored many goals, has plenty of assists, and has had a hand in a key role in almost every goal for dortmund. Every ball that comes through midfield goes through him and look where they sit in their table.

  • Em says:

Arsenal have to sign him ASAP as he will be a good replacement for Cesc and also add creativity in our midfield. He have good eyes on the ball, good ball control and knows how to score in difficult games…. REAL TALENT
Pls Wenger sign him and make our dream come true, then send Ramsey out on loan to regain confidence

Whow, do people really now all about these players? I follow football/arsenal quite religiously but: Kagawa? Never seen him play. Belhanda? Never seen him play, Eriksen? Saw him once on TV when Manu played Ajax, not remotely enough to form any opinion. Seen Robben, wouldn’t mind him at Arsenal but not overly bothered.
I bow to the superior knowledge you all seem (claim?) to have.

    • Joe says:

If you follow Arsenal religiously you should have seen Kagawa play this season.

Kagawa scored in our 2-1 over Dortmund @d Emirates this season…….you need 2 watch more of our games & also keep an eye on other clubs or leagues….Dortmund are one of the best attacking squad in Europe @d moment….still surprised how we drew in their home and beat them @d Emirates

As it happens, no I didn’t see the Dortmund game, I sadly can’t go to mid week games and missed both these games on tv. In any way, seeing a player once or twice on TV hardly makes for enough knowledge to judge whether he fits into the Arsenal system. Leaves my point, all these qwerty experts telling Wenger which players to buy are rediculous at best. I don’t think there is any other sport where people with so little knowledge of the game claim to know so much. Time for me to stop reading blogs now the transfer season is almost upon us.

  • sam says:

yes because we have not replaced cesc and the attacking midfield position is still vacant as ramsey let us down all season and rosicky cannot play every week and benayoun might go back to chelsea not sure about diaby’s fitness. if arsenal need to maintain strong challenge in all competition we need to big squad and implement a rotation system.

  • steve says:

Pro / fifa / football manager makes pros out of everyone.. as with you I’ve only really seen robben enough to make my own judgement, though my hopes are usually higher for targets outages ligue1:)

  • GaryH says:

We have signed Podolski and should now bring in hoilett, m’vila and vertonghen. If we sign these players we can allow vela, bendtner, chamakh, young, benayoun, arshavin, denilson, diaby, squillaci and djourou/mertesacker to leave.

we have plenty of youth players ready to step up to fill the squad in abobe, lansbury, coquelin, frimpong, miyaichi, miquel and bartley

  • davegooner says:

Every piece I’ve read suggests he will cost in the region of £15m as he has 2 years to run on his contract. Not sure why you think Dortmund will accept £5m?

  • GarytheRed says:

    No we don’t need him.

  • nicky says:

If Kagawa watched Ferguson lose the plot entirely when confronting Mancini on the touchline, he will not want to sign for United.
The guy is long past his sell by date.
I’ve rarely seen such childish behaviour.

    • sijo says:

i believe if he had seen the way wenger have been abusing and kicking water bottles everytime he lost the plot, will know that wenger has lost it long time ago. By the its 6 yrs since arsenal last won a trophy and the guy cant live without trophies…. And hey, i heard some people mumbling that there wont be any UCL match next season at the emirate.
