Arsenal target Mathieu Valbuena recently confirmed that he will not be leaving Marseille this summer.

Despite enduring a terrible season with the French club and being tracked by Arsene Wenger for quite sometime now, with reports claiming the Frenchman made a move for the 27-year-old last summer, the diminutive winger says he has a lot to prove following this season’s campaign and insists he will not leave the Ligue 1 club this summer because of it.

Valbuena told L’Equipe:

‘I will remain faithful.

‘I did not want to leave the club like that, finishing tenth.

‘I am very much attached to the club. It’s hard to leave. There are disadvantages to that but benefits too.

‘Even without the Champions League next season can be exciting. At Marseille we cannot talk about transitionary seasons, but there is everything to succeed. I feel good even if that is a bit contradictory with the season we have just had.’

The French winger, who is tied down to Marseille until 2014, managed to score six goals and bag 14 assist in 41 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit this season.

This will undoubtedly come as a blow to Wenger, but I believe there are other viable options out there for Le Boss to consider.

I reckon we could do with another winger coming in this summer. Who this is however remains to be seen.

  • True Arsenal says:

So, another overhyped french midget who isn’t quite ready to use our club as a stepping stone to Man City. What A shame.

  • Joe90 says:

He is a good player but not the type i was hoping for. Am thinking junior hoilet or mario gomez or granit xhaka.

  • Rick says:

This would be a great deal if it comes through. The lad is skillful and comfortable on the ball under pressure and will add quality to Wenger lineup.
