It appears once again Arsenal are amongst the transfers rumours, and I am sure as the season approaches it’s closure we will be linked with more and more players.

The latest rumour to come out is that Arsene Wenger is apparently chasing FC Basel defender Aleksandar Dragovic, according to Calciomercato.com

Wenger will face stiff competition from the likes of Inter Milan, Roma, Marseille, who have already made a concrete offer, Dortmund and Barcelona, who have all expressed an interest in the youngster, who is valued by Basel at £5 million. However the Swiss club are hoping to start an auction scenario whereby he may go to closer £10 million.

There is no doubting Dragovic is a talented young centre-back, and I think he would definitely be a good cover option for us to consider as we have struggled in defence once again this season, with players constantly playing out of position. But would he be willing to play second fiddle to Laurent Koscielny and Thomas Vermaelen, who are our main central defenders currently? And with the likes of Per Mertesacker also currently injured, the 21-year-old could find himself way down the pecking order. This being said, the former Austria Wien can and has also played as a defensive midfielder, which could be a huge benefit to the club should he sign for us.

The huge problem we as fans face at the end of the season is if we are going to buy players then some players need to leave, and if we’re looking at defenders then my first vote for the chop would be Sebastien Squillaci, who has been out-of-favour with the Arsenal faithful for a long time now. I’d rather have a tried and tested defender come in to replace him and lets be quite frank about this, it wouldn’t take a great deal of quality to replace him would it?

So is he a player Arsenal should be looking at, or is it a case of move on and see what happens elsewhere?
