Should Arsenal make a double summer swoop for this Udinese duo?

Arsenal and Liverpool are apparently interested in Udinese duo Mauricio Isla and Mehdi Benatia, according to reports in Italy.

The Zebrette pair have previously been linked with moves to England, with both Arsene Wenger and Kenny Daglish believed to have been monitoring their progress.

These claims were justified by Udinese president Giampaolo Pozzo, after the Italian confirmed there is apparent interest from aboard for both players.

Quoted on talkSPORT.com, Pozzo told Radio Kiss Kiss:

‘At the end of the season we will see what happens, but it is certainly true that several clubs have asked about these players.’

Taking this into account, I would like to ask the following question – should Arsenal be in for both Isla and Benatia this summer?

Firstly we’ll take a look at Mauricio Isla.

He is a 23-year-old Chile international who can play in several positions, including right, left and centre-back, a winger or centre midfielder, as well as an inside forward if need be.

Isla has made over 100 appearances for Udinese since 2007. The 5’9’’ defender is renowned for his versatility, pace and direct style of play.

Along with Arsenal and Liverpool, Inter, Juventus and Roma are also all believed to be looking at the £12 million-rated South American.

Personally, I feel he would be a great signing for us as he is a utility player. He would certainly add more competition and depth to our squad. However, he would likely want a starting role which may be hard to come by when everybody at the club are fit and available. Still reckon its worth making a bid for him though.

Now let’s take a look at Mehdi Benatia.

He is a 24-year-old Moroccan international defender and has been at Udinese for almost two years having moved from Ligue 2 side Clermont in 2010. Benatia has made 63 appearances for the Zebrette so far, scoring six goals in the process.

The French-born centre-back stands at 6’4’’ and is known for his aerial ability, pace, strength and good reading of the game.

To be honest, he is an impressive centre-back, but I feel we have enough cover in this department, so a move for him this summer would be pointless.

Had Johan Djourou not signed a new deal at Arsenal, then I think a move for Benatia would’ve have been on the cards and a good signing in general.

What do you guys think – should Arsenal make a double swoop for these two players?

Not established enough players. May be good but at that price tag better options must surely exist

I still think that Djourou is not good enough for Arsenal. He should be sold, but then Arsenal dont really need to sign anyone. They have Miquel who can fill in and also, Bartley will be available as well next season after two seasons on loan.
