Well Arsenal have once again been beaten to the punch to sign one of their targets, as German playmaker Marco Reus agreed to sign for Bundesliga champions Dortmund at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old midfielder attracted interest from several top European clubs following a series of impressive displays for Borussia Monchengladbach this season.

However, Monchengladbach announced yesterday that Reus will be joining Dortmund on a five-year deal for around £14.5 million next summer.

Many will believe that with Reus joining Dortmund, German youngster and Arsenal target Mario Gotze may be heading out. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case as the German club’s sporting director Michael Zorc recently confirmed that the 19-year-old will be staying put for at least another season.

Oh well, I guess we should be used to this by now. However, I do remain optimistic that Arsene Wenger will deliver the goods and acquire a creative midfielder and a striker this January.
