Former Arsenal centre-back Frank McLintock has praised Arsene Wenger’s decision to bring Thierry Henry back to Arsenal on loan, but insists the club must bring another striker.

In an interview with talkSPORT’s Weekend Sports Breakfast, McLintock stated:

‘We badly need somebody that can score goals, somebody to play alongside van Persie or, if van Persie is injured, to step in there.

‘I do think Henry’s return will give the squad a lift because he is one of the best players Arsenal have ever had. He still has great feelings for Arsenal. He will have lost a bit of pace but he had so much pace anyway that he’ll still have more pace than most players.’

McLintock is wary though of just relying on Thierry Henry and Robin Van Persie upfront and goes to on suggest that Arsenal should not just stop with the French striker in their pursuits of attackers. He suggested fans choices Lukas Podolski as a potential signing this month:

‘But I hope Arsene Wenger doesn’t rely just on Henry coming in this next month because we do badly need someone like [Lukas] Podolski, someone to replace and play with van Persie because, as everyone knows, if he gets injured we have had it because there’s no-one else in the team scoring regularly apart from van Persie.’

Now the rumour mill has already turned a lot concerning Podolski, but the German international recently informed the media that he is not prepared to gamble on a January move away from Cologne because he does not want to endanger his chances of playing for Germany in the European Championships this summer. However, the 26-year-old would favour a summer move after the season and European Championship is over.

To be honest, I think Frank McLintock is right. Arsenal do need to sign another striker and if I had my way a few other players as well, because injury wise it is just stupid playing so many players out of position as we have done recently. Furthermore, if we are to lose the likes of Andrey Arshavin and Maraoune Chamakh during the transfer window then they will need replacing.

Is McLintock right? Do we need another striker to be brought in this month?
