Zenit coach Luciano Spalletti has ruled out a January move for Arsenal’s Andrey Arshavin, according to Sky Sports.

The 30-year-old Russian has been heavily linked with a move back to his former club after finding himself glued to the Arsenal bench more often than not these days.

The Russian international initially left Zenit for Arsenal in 2009, but reports suggest he’s currently unsettled at The Emirates and is believed to be considering his options when the January window opens.

However, while Spalletti is a keen admirer of Arshavin’s qualities, the former Roma boss recently confirmed he does not have any plans of signing the disgruntled forward in January.

Spalletti told Russian website SPB:

‘Arshavin – he’s a very strong footballer. If we need a player of his qualities then we’ll try to sign him.

‘But at the moment we don’t have such a need.’

Mega-rich Russian outfit Anzhi now appear to be favourites to land Arshavin, with Fiorentina also said to be monitoring the situation.
