George Graham recently told talkSPORT that Gervinho has impressed him.

The ex-Lille forward, who signed for Arsenal in the summer for a reported £11 million, has quickly settled and adapted to the Gunners system, and Graham believes Arsene Wenger’s other acquisitions – Per Mertesacker, Mikel Arteta, Andre Santos, Yossi Benayoun and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – can also find success at the north London club if they are given time to settle:

‘You’ve got to give them time.’

‘Arsene Wenger’s transfer policy since he joined the club has been phenomenal, buying players unknown to the British public like Henry, Pires and Ljungberg. Nobody knew these players, even Vieira, nobody knew him in England yet he bought them and made them into world class players.’

‘You’ve got to go along with him to a certain extent but time will be the judge if they really develop into the type of class players that Arsenal needs.’

‘I’ve been very impressed by Gervinho from the games I’ve seen him in. He stays on the left-wing then comes inside and joins up with the centre-forward, it’s nice to see that from a winger.’

He concluded by saying:

‘One-on-one he’s very good, which is always nice to see in any team. Players taking other players on, he looks very good at that and then he comes inside and plays a one-two off van Persie.’

I too have been impressed with Gervinho since his arrival from Ligue 1.

His forward runs remind me a little of that of Robert Pires – he is not afraid to take on defenders and has tricks to do so, just like the legendary Frenchman did for us back in the day. His eye for goal is also refreshing to see, as we cannot rely on RVP to bag them all for us during the course of the season.

In my opinion, Geo can only get better and I for one hope that he continues his fine form and displays for the foreseeable future, or at least until the end of the season.
