Reports are surfacing that Serie A outfit Roma are interested in signing Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh.

Roma boss Luis Enrique is looking for a suitable replacement for Mirko Vucinic, who was sold to Juventus a few days ago, and sees the Moroccan international as an ideal candidate for the job.

However, despite a topsy-turvy first season at Arsenal, where he struggled to feature for The Gunners after Robin van Persie returned to full fitness, Chamakh wants to stay at the Emirates and make a name for himself in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old, who signed for Arsenal on a free from Bordeaux last summer, told SkySports.com:

‘I want to make my name in the Premier League.’

‘I started well last season and lost my way. However, I want to make a name for myself here.’

‘I’ve heard a lot of rumours about me leaving the Gunners, but I have a contract here. I want to honour it and make myself No.1 in my position. I am looking forward to that.’

I’ll be honest; I’m not a huge fan of Chamakh – his movement and first-touch disappoints me. Don’t get me wrong, the Moroccan did a great job for us last season whilst RVP was sidelined, but I don’t think he’s a 25 goal striker, nor is he a game changer.

I’m glad to hear that he is committed to the club and that he wants to make a name for himself in the Premier League and hope that he does. However, I don’t think he will ever be the no.1 player in his position, not at Arsenal anyway.

He’s a good squad player and will probably bag us around 10-12 goals this season, but with RVP back to good health and the inclusion of Ivory Coast international Gervinho, Chamakh will struggle a lot more this season than he did the last one.
