Ligue 1 outfit Saint-Etienne have recently told interested clubs, including Arsenal, that they want £13.2 million for French international Blaise Matuidi this summer.

It’s been reported that the 24-year-old would consider a move away from the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard after revealing his intentions to play for a Champions League club next season.

Arsene Wenger is thought to be very interested in the Frenchman’s services, and has reportedly been given a price-tag to meet by St. Etienne president Roland Romeyer. Romeyer was quoted in The Progress this week saying:

‘The right fee is €15 million (£13.2m). We will not discuss anything lower.’

Although Wenger appears interested, it is believed that he will look to sort out the future of Cesc Fabregas before making any bid for Matuidi.

The Frenchman, who made 34 appearances for Saint-Etienne last season, is said to be light on his feet, can distribute the ball quickly and efficiently, as well as possessing great positional awareness – all the qualities required to make it in the Premier League.

Blaise Matuidi could be a welcomed addition to the Arsenal squad. However, whether Wenger will in fact make a move for the French midfielder this summer remains to be seen.

Should Wenger splash out £13.2 million for Matuidi this summer, or are there better options out there for the boss to think about?
