Why Arsenal don’t need to break the bank on a top goalkeeper this summer

|

The only thing that might put Wenger off is his hefty price-tag. But we all know that he will be affordable if the Frenchman truly desires him. But do Arsenal really need him? I don’t think so.

Szczesny’s debut against United earlier this season left many fans, including Wenger, believing that they may have finally found their man between the sticks, and the performances that followed were nothing short of brilliant given his tender age.

Szczesny also stood tall in the bigger matches and never looked fazed by the occasion. The defence looks far more assured with the knowledge that there is a reliable pair of hands behind them.

The Pole’s presence has hugely contributed to the improved performances of Johan Djourou and Laurent Koscielny. A world class goalkeeper can make a world of difference and Szczesny did exactly that.

At just 21, his technique looks extremely good. He has got fantastic reflexes, good anticipation, as well as positioning. He also reads the game very well and is confident when collecting balls from set-pieces. His also organizes the defence well. More importantly, he is still young and can only get better.

The Pole has got more than 15, maybe even 20 years of football left in him, and he is guaranteed to grow and gain valuable experience through match practice and daily training.

Some might feel that Szczesny could do with a mentor by his side for a couple of years, someone that could guide and teach him in order to have a more stable rise to the top. However, Szczesny is a special talent, and Wenger should keep faith with the youngster.

Our summer transfer funds should be used to strengthen other areas of our squad because in my opinion, we already have the guy who in a couple years will be challenging Manuel Neuer for the prestigious tag of ‘best goalkeeper in the world’.

Arsenal don’t need a goalkeeper, we already have a top keeper at Arsenal. I think our biggest weakness is our defence. If we look at some of the goals we have conceded in the last two months, they have all come from defensive mistakes.

Neuer would be a great signing, and money well spent,Czezsney will let the team down he is not ready to be No 1, maybe another couple of years. but Wenger won’t buy so wait for the accidents and they will cost us.

@stevepalmer. When has he let us down yet?

Even in the carling cup final if Kos deals with the ball its in row z, or Kos just leaves it and the keeper picks it
      up with ease!

Steve, agreed. And why when a signing is mentioned everyone says we have to ‘break the bank’? Arsenal have never ‘broken the bank’, why are we are so rich, in part because we only sell top players for millions but never buy anyone for near those amounts.

Our transfer policy has seriously angered many in the professional ranks(managers and players and fans), the ever rising ticket prices convey to the football world that we are only interested in rich ‘customers’. It’s a farce really, or should I say, just business, because the club atmosphere is long gone.

Much will depend on who leaves this summer. There are those who will be encouraged to leave and those who wish to leave. On the face of it we could lose four maybe five players in which case Wenger will be obliged to sign three, no more and a goalkeeper isn`t one of them.

There’s simply no way Wenger will break the bank to sign a replacement for such a talent. Talk as much as you like, but I think I agree with Wenger on this matter. Szczesny is top class, and we can’t blame the goalie for the lack of silverware this season.
