Arsenal in hot pursuit of ‘next Nicolas Anelka’

Arsenal and Chelsea are believed to be in hot pursuit of Jean Christophe Bahebeck, who has been dubbed by his native France as the ‘new Nicolas Anelka’, according to talkSPORT.

The 17-year-old winger, who is on the books of Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint-Germain, has attracted interest from a number of Italian teams as well as the two Premier League clubs mentioned.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea are thought to be so keen on the youngster’s services that they have sent scouts to monitor Bahebeck’s development.

However, the starlet’s agent, Christophe Mongai, who also represents Arsenal’s Bacary Sagna, has revealed that ‘Les Parisiens’ have no intention of losing their star asset. Mongai was quoted in daily French publication, L’Equipe, saying:

‘I can confirm that the boy is being watched by Juvenuts and Inter Milan, as well as two English teams – but I don’t think PSG would want to sell him.’

Bahebeck has made a total of 8 appearances for PSG in all competitions and has found the net once. The French youth star has also represented his country at U-16 and U-18 level, bagging 3 goals in 6 appearances.

Arsene Wenger may be in the market for a winger this summer, as Andrey Arshavin’s future at Arsenal remains in doubt following speculation of a move back to Zenit. However, even if Arshavin were to be sold, I would prefer Wenger to sign a more experienced replacement.

Bahebeck maybe the future of France and indeed French football, but in my opinion, Arsenal should be focusing on the present. Therefore, Wenger should be targeting a more established winger, if of course he wishes to acquire one during the summer transfer window.
