Why Arsenal shouldn’t entertain Chelsea’s proposed £50M summer bid for Fabregas

|

With the £50 million capture of Fernando Torres on the winter deadline day now a distant memory, fresh reports are now suggesting that Chelsea are preparing to make yet another £50 million bid, this time for Arsenal captain and talisman Cesc Fabregas when the summer window opens. Surely a bid Arsene Wenger will not entertain?

Fabregas has again been heavily linked with a move back to Barcelona at the end of the season, after missing out on a return to his boyhood club last season. The 23-year-old signed for the Gunners in 2003 when he was a teenager, but came close to rejoining the current La Liga champions in the summer following Spain’s World Cup success in South Africa.

It is now believed that Chelsea’s billionaire owner, Roman Abramovich, is set to launch a monstrous £50 million bid to rival Barcelona for the Spaniard’s services this summer.

Of course, Arsene Wenger is determined to fend off any bids for his talisman this summer, and would undoubtedly be extremely reluctant to sell to London rivals Chelsea. It is understood that the Frenchman has slapped a whopping £60 million price tag on Fabregas, which he believes will once again scare off Barcelona in an attempt to keep hold of the creative midfielder for at least one more season.

As an Arsenal fan, I don’t want to see Fabregas leave anytime soon. He’s a hugely influential player in our squad, and more importantly, our club captain. In my opinion, Chelsea will be wasting their time trying to lure the Spaniard to Stamford Bridge this summer. Personally, I feel Wenger will be unwilling to sell one of our prized assets in order to aide a title and London rivals chances of lifting trophies. However, as we’ve seen in the past and last week with Fernando Torres, money talks.

If Fabregas were to leave Arsenal, which I think will ensue in the near future, I’d rather him join Barcelona than a Premier League outfit, purely for the fact that he would not play against us, except for possibly in the Champions League. For the club and fans sake, let’s hope Arsenal do not commence business with Chelsea over our captain this summer.

I don’t see the point why Chelsea are going to make a bid, it’s pointless, everyone knows if he goes he’ll go to Barca. Mind you it could be good because Barca will have to up there bid. If he goes hopefully we’ll get a lot of money for him, but I hope he stays to help Arsenal win trophies.
