Is Guardiola the long-term successor to Wenger’s throne?

|

They say all good things must come to an end, and whether or not we like it or not there will be no exception to Arsene Wenger’s reign at Arsenal. The problem that awaits the North London club will be finding the Frenchman’s successor, someone capable of filling Wenger’s shoes. However, is there anyone out there that can do this?

Well Arsenal fans maybe happy to hear that Barcelona coach Josep ‘Pep’ Guardiola last night admitted that he has not ruled out a probable move to the Premier League one day. Asked whether or not he would relish the task of one day managing in the Premier League, ahead of Barcelona’s derby against Espanyol, the 39-year-old was quoted in the Daily Mail as saying:

‘As a player I was interested (in playing there) but it was not possible. It is not something I have planned yet but because of the nature of this job, I know I will not be here forever or even for many years.’

The Catalan coach finished off by saying:

‘I would not rule it out.’

Undoubtedly, Pep Guardiola is one of the most talented managers in world football today. The Spaniard was appointed the head coach of the senior club in 2008 following great success with the B team a year before. Since taking charge of the Catalan club, Guardiola has guided his team to eight major honours which include two La Liga titles, one Copa Del Rey, and more importantly, a UEFA Champions League triumph in 2009.

The Spaniard is currently into his third year of management at the club and has over the past three years, created and moulded a magical team which is regarded as the best in the world. Guardiola has so far managed his side 147 times. Out of the 147 games in charge, the young coach has won 108 of them, drawn 26 and lost just the 13, which is an average win ratio of 73.47%…an incredible record to say the very least. However, some fans out there may not be impressed by these statistics because they view the Primera Division as a two-team league. This maybe the case, but the fact is Guardiola has produced in both domestic and European competitions since his appointment at the club which must be acknowledged.

For me, Pep Guardiola is the only man currently in world football that I can see succeeding Arsene Wenger.

The 39-year-old is likened to the Arsenal boss in terms of mentality and style of play, and has in the past been linked with a move to the Emirates. I’m pretty sure fans of the North London club would like to see their team continue playing their majestic football when Wenger does decide to call it a day, and who better to maintain this than Pep Guardiola. Of course nothing is yet set in stone, and like the Barca boss has stated, even he doesn’t know what the future holds. However, his comments do suggest that the Premier League is his preferred destination once his time is up at the Nou Camp.

I for one hope to see Guardiola one day take charge of Arsenal. The Spaniard has shown the key elements as a manager to succeed, and more importantly, achieve greatness in a style that is admired around the world. He is definitely the long-term successor to Arsene Wenger’s throne in my eyes.

I would love to Guardiola manage Arsenal one day as I feel he would be the right person for the job. Arsenal’s attacking style of football would suit Guardiola as he is known for that, I mean look at the fantastic job he is doing at Barca. I think personally he is the ideal man and if he were to go to United or Chelsea, I don’t think there style would suit him. I hope one day he will join Arsenal and turn them into the new Barca.

Why wait Pep after you thrash Manure in the final you can come in and replace Wenger! Wenger can move to the accounts department where he thrives!

  • Albert says:

And what makes you so sure Manure will be in the final of the CL?? Considering the fact that they might not even make it to the knockout stages. I, for one, would like, no LOOOOVEE to see them hopping on cold thursday nights across Europe. And while they’re at it, they can have Chelski and Shitty for company.
