Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed last week that the 27-year-old has asked to leave Manchester United and has been linked with a move to The Gunners this summer.

While many would like to see Rooney at Arsenal next season, Robson reckons Arsene Wenger could run the risk of upsetting other players at the club if he were to sign the England international:

‘I think he obviously doesn’t want to be at Manchester United.

‘But Arsenal don’t really want to be buying a player that could be on the wane.

‘The problem is everyone at Arsenal wants to play in the hole behind the striker and they’ve done that for years.

‘They buy players that play behind the main striker and then they play them out in wide areas and the players get unhappy because they’re not playing in the position they want to play. If Wayne Rooney plays there then it will upset other players.’

Robson went on to say that although Rooney would be a good signing for Arsenal, he questions whether the United forward is at his very best now and if his former club would pay a fortune for him:

‘I think he’d be a good signing, but is he at his very best now? That’s the question.

‘And will Arsenal have to pay an absolute fortune? You know Arsenal don’t pay fortunes for players.’

Some good points raised by Robson. We could easily afford to buy Rooney as Wenger will have a lot of cash to spend this summer. However, the stumbling block in this potential deal happening is the player’s wages.

Its not a matter of can Arsenal give him what he wants, it’s will they.

The Gunners are in a superb financial position to give their stars or potential arrivals what they want but they are unwilling to break or even tweak the wage structure at the club.

Following QPR’s relegation from the Premier League, the 33-year-old goalkeeper has been told by Redknapp that he can leave the London club in the upcoming transfer window and Arsenal have been linked with a move for the Brazilian with Wojciech Szczesny’s future still in doubt.

However, Redknapp insists he has not heard from Wenger about Cesar.

The former Spurs manager was quoted on talkSPORT.com saying:

‘Cesar is a top keeper. Where’s he going? Arsenal? Arsene Wenger hasn’t phoned me. He’s a Brazil international but he’s got a price.’

AC Milan are reportedly eyeing up a move for Cesar, who joined QPR from Inter in January.

But it is believed the shot-stopper’s most likely destination is Arsenal, according to the Daily Mirror.

Cesar currently pockets around £70k-a-week at QPR, a figure The Gunners could well afford to match or even increase, especially if unwanted players, like Sebastien Squillaci, Denilson and Marouane Chamakh, are sold this summer.

The France Under-21 international is out of contract next month and is in advanced stages of sealing a deal to The Emirates at the end of the season.

Sanogo has netted eight goals in seven appearances for the Ligue 2 club this season and has been capped at 11 times in total for the France Under-19 and Under-21 sides.

Arsenal showed some interest in Sanogo before he signed for Auxerre in 2009, and when asked about a deal for the 6’3’’ Frenchman, Wenger said:

‘It is in advanced stages but it is not done.

‘I am very confident. He is a young promising striker who has a big talent.’

He may not be the top striker we were hoping to see come in this summer but Sanogo looks a decent prospect for the future and under Wenger’s guidance could develop into a good player for our club.

Hopefully Wenger is eyeing up a more star-studded forward, as I can’t see Sanogo, if he signs for Arsenal, playing regularly in the first-team next season.

Yeah that ‘striker’ who joined the club on a free three years ago from Bordeaux. Well he wants to quit Arsenal this summer and hopes to return to his former side, Bordeaux. Hopefully, this DOES transpire this term.

The 29-year-old arrived at The Emirates in 2010 and despite a decent start to his Arsenal career, the Moroccan has become a misfit at the club. He was even loaned out to West Ham in January in order to regain his form, but to no avail. And because of this, it is hard to see him return to Arsenal let alone stay in the Premier League where he has flopped.

As a result, Chamakh is hoping to return to Bordeaux at the end of the season:

‘I spent so many good times here.

‘Everyone knows that Bordeaux is a club that is in my heart. If I find an agreement with Bordeaux, why not?

‘If I come back to France, it will be in Bordeaux.’

Since joining Arsenal, Chamakh has managed to find the net just the 15 times in 61 appearances in all competitions – hardly a striker worth keeping at The Emirates and pocketing over 50k-a-week.

Sam Allardyce will unlikely make a move for the Morocco international after only appearing three times for his side, and as such, Chamakh should look to seal a move away from Arsenal this summer.

Unfortunately, he won’t be missed if he chooses to hand in a transfer request at the end of the season!

The 21-year-old has been linked with a move to The Emirates and with his current deal whining down, the Scottish champions are eager to tie down the combative midfielder to a new contract to ward off any interest in him.

However, despite being happy at Celtic, Wanyama has revealed his future at Celtic is not certain.

Quoted in the Metro, the Kenya international recently said:

‘I just leave the club and my agent to sort everything out. You never know. We will see.’

When asked if this was his best season at Celtic since joining the club two years ago, he said:

‘I would say yes because we have won two in a row and also we have the (Scottish) Cup to play for.

‘Being in the last 16 of the Champions League is a great thing for a player to achieve.

‘It has been a great season and we have really enjoyed it.

‘Celtic is a good club and my team-mates have been great. They have been strong and just a very good team.’

Wanyama still has two-years left to run on his current deal at Celtic Park but despite having his best season at the club, the defensive powerhouse could well hand in a transfer request at the end of the season knowing that there are several clubs interested in his services. Plus, his father reckons his son is ready to move on and would like him to join Arsenal if he were to leave Celtic.

The 22-year-old French midfielder is out-of-favour at The Emirates under Arsene Wenger and has played in cup competitions rather than in the Premier League.

And it now appears the France Under-21 international’s time at Arsenal is finally up.

Despite having two more years left to run on his existing deal at The Emirates, Coquelin may well look to secure a permanent move away from Arsenal rather than a temporary one as he has dropped down the pecking order at the club in recent times.

Schalke are reportedly keen on the defensive midfielder although no official bid has been tabled for him yet.

Coquelin joined The Gunners in 2008 after an impressive trial and has since made a total of 41 appearances in all competitions. During this time, he was loaned out to Lorient where gained first-team experience.

This summer will see many of the top clubs in Europe change their managers.

Not all of the following clubs have officially confirmed it yet but new managers could well be in place shortly at Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester City, Everton, Manchester United and Chelsea. Three of these clubs have been Arsenal’s major competitors for Champions League positions in the Premier League and the two clubs from Spain and France are potential adversaries in the European competition itself.

When new managers come into new clubs there is often a learning curve for them and their players which can result in the fortunes of the teams they either inherit or have been permitted to put together during the transfer window, taking a temporary or longer term loss of form.

All of the teams mentioned above have performed extremely well this season but changes in training, tactics, coaching staff and new players can have an unsettling effect, and teams like Arsenal, with the longest serving manager in Europe, can potentially use this situation to their advantage.

Assuming Arsene Wenger has been given the necessary funds by the Arsenal Board and he is willing to dramatically improve the team by buying world class players in this summer’s transfer window, The Gunners could, with a lengthy winning start to the season, then put tremendous pressure on these new managers who are still trying to find their best formations and tactics.

This is a great opportunity for Wenger to show he has not lost his ability to put together a team capable of beating those teams that have been our competitors for top league positions in the last eight years.

Manchester United’s new manager, David Moyes, is facing huge pressure from the fans to maintain the same kind of performance that Sir Alex Ferguson has managed for years and despite Moyes doing a fairly good job at Everton, his new position is going to test his skills and experience to the limit.

If Jose Mourinho takes over at Chelsea, he will be inheriting a team that has some great players but he has a history of putting his own mark on the teams he manages and he will surely bring in new players. Whether this will result in Chelsea being able to challenge immediately for the Premier League title, remains to be seen.

Manchester City may well have a new manager shortly, if press reports are to be believed. However, looking at the team’s performance in the FA Cup final, the new manager has a real job on his hands to make them into a team capable of challenging, unless he brings in new players. That could well be a project that could also take some time to come to fruition.

Everton’s new manager will face the same problems over budgets that restricted Moyes’ ability to put together a team that could compete for the Premier League title let alone a top four finish. It may well be some time before Everton becomes a serious contender again.

This is why I think it is vitally important for Wenger and the board to recognise that this is the best opportunity they have had in recent times to make a real statement of intent and put together a world class team capable to winning titles and cups like we have done in the past.

Go for it Arsene! And give the Arsenal fans something they can really cheer about!

The Fiorentina midfielder has been ever-present for the Serie A side outfit this season, and his performances, which have helped the Florence club attain a top four finish, have not gone unnoticed with Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal all said to be monitoring the 28-year-old former West Brom man.

Despite signing for Fiorentina last summer from Villarreal, his agent, Alejandro Camano, insists no decision about Valero’s future will be made until the end of the season.

Quoted on talkSPORT.com, Camano said:

‘I think after a season like the one Borja Valero has had it is pleasing for everyone. Now, however, the priority is the championship race.

‘There is still one match left with Fiorentina just two points behind AC Milan. Maximum concentration must be on the last match.

‘I think now it is premature to talk about it (Valero’s future). Situations change quickly in the market. Now we need this season finale and then we’ll see.’

A claim which will please a hell of a lot of Arsenal fans out there.

As we all know, The Gunners have not lifted a piece of silverware since 2005 and have fallen behind Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City in the Premier League title races over the past few years.

However, Wenger seems to finally have had enough of falling short of winning trophies, especially the Premier League title, and says next season must be different.

The Frenchman said:

‘Last year we made 70 points and finished third. This year, we can make 73 points and finish fourth, so what you want to do is have a consistency and fight for the Premier League.

‘Finishing fourth is the minimum required. You could see that when Chelsea’s Champions League position was under threat, they came out quickly and said ‘no, what is most important for us is to be in the Champions League next year’.’

He added:

‘It is difficult to achieve, but we have done it over the years. Is it enough? No. We want more, but this year, Manchester United was above everybody else.

‘We have rebuilt the team and since January we have certainly done very well if you look at the number of points we have taken compared to the other teams.

‘We have created a good basis and that stability can help us start strongly next season.’

Regardless of whether we require the last remaining Champions League spot, this season has not been productive at all. We are currently 21 points adrift of Manchester United and fighting with Spurs to attain Champions league football next season – it’s just not good enough.

I want Arsenal to challenge for the title next season, and I’m glad to hear Wenger is aiming for it. In my opinion, it is very much possible. But it is now down to Le Boss and the board to tie up the significant deals to improve our squad further.

We Arsenal football club and we should be up there with the likes of Manchester United fighting for the title, not scrapping for fourth place with bloody Spurs!

The Argentina international has been told by Real Madrid’s general manager Jose Angel Sanchez that he is no longer needed at the Bernabeu and the Spanish website claim Higuain has agreed a five-year deal to join Arsenal with the club shelling out around £18.6 million.

Despite a decent return of 14 goals in 17 La Liga starts this season, the 25-year-old has struggled to cement a first-team place since Jose Mourinho took charge of the Spanish giants, with the former Chelsea boss favouring Karim Benzema over the Argentine.

Higuain has spent seven seasons at Real, netting a total (to date) 118 goals in 263 appearances in all competitions.

If this reported deal has in fact been reached and Higuain is heading to Arsenal in the summer, then kudos to Arsene Wenger for the quickness of this transfer and splashing the cash!
