Arsene Wenger has confirmed he is keeping a close eye on Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe’s development.

The 18-year-old has managed to find the back of the net six times in 20 total appearances so far this season for the Ligue 1 side and has already attracted the interest of several top European clubs. It’s understood Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are among those keen on the teenage who is being compared to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Speaking to the official Ligue 1 YouTube channel (via Metro) Wenger sees the same qualities as Henry:

‘Mbappe is not exactly Thierry Henry but it’s true that he has similar qualities.

‘The future, the talent is similar. The potential is similar. After that, has he the same level of motivation, desire and intelligence that Thierry had? The next two or three years will tell us that.

‘The first signs you see are very similar, yes.’

Wenger then admitted that the Gunners are keeping tabs on the France Under-19 international, despite only recently signing a new deal with Monaco:

‘Yes, we follow him and we know him very well and he is developing well.

‘I think he has extended his contract last season at Monaco so it’s Monaco who will decide about his future.

‘We could have another Thierry Henry.’

Wenger opted not to sign a striker this January and for good reason as he currently has five strikers at his disposal. However, the Frenchman continues to keep tabs on possible new recruits, especially with Alexis Sanchez’s future still in doubt at the Emirates.
