Arsenal are looking at bringing in Barcelona youth coach Jose “Pep” Segura as the head of youth development, according to the Independent.

The Spaniard was previously Academy Director at Liverpool between 2009 and 2012 before he returned to Spain to become Barca’s head of professional phase at the club’s famed La Masia youth academy (pictured).

Segura currently overseas the development of players in Barcelona B and the Juvenil A, the two teams below the first team. He has been targeted by a number of Premier League clubs in the past, including Chelsea, and the Gunners will certainly need to fight off the competition if they want to sign him up.

The youth coach’s first spell in England came under Rafa Benitez at Liverpool when he was appointed to oversee the restructuring of the Reds’ youth academy at Kirkby.

Segura then left Liverpool after the appointment of Brendan Rodgers as manager when Alex Inglethorpe replaced him as Academy Director. The Spaniard has also managed a senior side, Olympiakos back in 2008-09 season, before his time in England.
