Arsene Wenger believes he made the right decision loaning out Jack Wilshere to Bournemouth for the season.

The England international sealed the season-long loan move to Eddie Howe’s side last summer after Wenger approved of the idea. However, the Frenchman failed to input a recall clause in the deal, and if he did do, then perhaps he would have activated after losing the services of Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin to injury, as well as Mohamed Elneny who is on international duty with Egypt.

When asked why he did not loan out Wilshere in January, Wenger said:

‘In the Premier League, it is season-long loans.’

Clearly, the Frenchman is not up to speed with the rules and regulations of loan deals, with the Premier League allowing deals to run over the course of just one transfer window. And had he had known this, then perhaps he may have rethought sending Wilshere out over the summer.

Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka now remain Wenger’s only two fit central midfielders for a key period of the season.

Despite this, Wenger till stands by his decision to allow Wilshere to spend the season at Bournemouth, where he started regularly for the Cherries:

‘Yes, I could use Jack now but I still think it was the right decision for him to go.

‘What looks unfair at the moment is that you know at some stage of the season you could need the player.

‘But at the start of the season you need to have the right balance between competition, numbers and chances for the player to play.

‘And if Jack had not played until now, he would not be ready to play now.’

If only you brushed up on the rules and regulations of loan deal Mr. Wenger.

Hopefully, Arsenal can get through this period with a depleted midfield without too much damage. Fingers crossed.
