Stan Collymore believes Arsenal and Mesut Ozil will not win the Premier League title if Arsene Wenger remains in charge of the club, and reckons the Gunners should go all out to get Diego Simeone in to replace the Frenchman.

The German playmaker has entered the final 18 months of his current deal at the Emirates and has yet to sign a new one.

However, the 28-year-old has recently stated that his future at Arsenal depends on whether Wenger commits to the club. The Frenchman’s contract is up in the summer and although he has reportedly been tabled a new two-year deal, he has hinted he may wait until spring to decide whether to sign it.

Ozil’s comments have not gone down well with the Arsenal faithful, with many suggesting that player should play for the badge and club rather than the manager. Collymore found the German’s comments ‘strange’ but did understand them to a certain degree. However, the talkSPORT presenter insists that if Wenger commits to Arsenal for a further two years, he and Ozil haven’t got a ‘cat in hell’s chance’ of winning the Premier League:

‘Ozil knows that if Arsenal stick with Wenger for the next two years then they, nor he, have a cat in hell’s chance of winning the Premier League.

‘Surely if you’re Ozil – or Alexis Sanchez for that matter – and you are looking at it purely as a footballing opportunity, you must be watching Jurgen Klopp, Antonio Conte, Pep Guardiola – the super-managers – and saying to yourself, “Well, if we got a manager like Simeone he might work us a little bit harder, but with the talent we’ve got we could win the title”.’

Speaking on Simeone, Collymore said:

‘Simeone wouldn’t mess about and I’m adamant he’d be very quick to bring in players whose profile says they mean business and want to win trophies.’
