Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he doesn’t believe he can find players in the January transfer market that are of sufficient quality to improve the Gunners squad.

Things can change very quickly in a transfer window, especially with injuries and players being sold, but at this moment in time, Wenger does not believe there will be any players bought or sold. He is quoted by Arsenal.com as saying:

“In our club, who is going out? Nobody at the moment. Who is coming in? Nobody. The best way would’ve been to get Cazorla back, to get Danny Welbeck back. Anyway, there is very little hope to find players of that quality in the January transfer market. So the best way to deal with that is to get our injured players back.”

Like all clubs, the Gunners will be subject to a number of transfer rumours in the next few weeks. Much will depend however on whether players become available that can improve the squad, and can be bought for a reasonable price.

It is true that Arsenal’s midfield is looking threadbare at the moment. The injuries to Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin, the absence of Jack Wilshere out on loan, and the departure of Mohamed Elneny to the African Cup of Nations means Arsene Wenger has just two fit central midfielders in Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey currently available to him. Whether this will force Wenger’s hand in the transfer market we will have to wait and see.
