Roma are struggling to come up with the funds to sign goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny on a permanent basis, according to the Corriere Dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper say Arsenal’s €16m (£14m) asking price is currently too much for the Serie A, and they are currently considering making Brazilian keeper Alisson first choice.

The 24 year old was signed from Brazilian club Internacional in the summer but hasn’t made a league appearance in the first team after his €7.5million move. The player has been promised more first team football which could suggest that a permanent deal for Szczesny is unlikely.

The Polish international has been a first team regular in both seasons he has been on loan in Italy but it is believed he would be keen to return to the Emirates to challenge Petr Cech for the number one position with the Gunners.

Whether Szczesny has any future back in England is uncertain due to the fact that Arsene Wenger has yet to sign a new deal to stay with Arsenal.
