Arsenal have reportedly agreed personal terms with Roma defender Kostas Manolas. The Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli shared the news exclusively with whoscored.com.

Whether this news is genuine or not, time will tell. Giulianelli reports that the move will happen at the end of the season, and not before today’s transfer deadline.

The fee that Whoscored.com is reporting is £47m (€55m), a huge number considering the Gunners opted against signing the Greek international last summer after shelling out £35million on Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi instead.

Another thing that counts against the move happening is the one year contract extension that has been given to Per Mertesacker earlier this month. You would think that the Gunners would have allowed the German international’s contract to run down to make room for Manolas in the squad.

Also, it is unlikely Shkodran Mustafi would leave after one year while, like Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny has recently signed a new deal. We will just have to see what transpires in the summer .
